Ed Smith is the owner/operator of Southern Soul Blues Radio. He has been collecting music in the form of CD's, Vinyl and concert videos seriously since 1974. He has always been connected to music in some kind of way. All this while still holding down a professional career which he has retired from. He has also been a former music retailer,DJ, musician, singer, songwriter, producer and co-owner of an Independent record label with his brother "Fly" Smith. Ed plays several instruments. However, his primary instrument is guitar. He has owned his own band that has played as club house band at many hotels along Florida beaches. He and his brother has also played with many Funk, RnB and soul groups in the Florida area such as the worlds famous " Bobby Williams Band". His musical journey began at the age of 15 making his rounds of the chitlin circuit on week-ends and during the summer traveling up and down the Southern and Eastern U.S. with a 16 piece review Band called "The Soul Messengers" playing trumpet and other instruments. Through the years, he along with his brother have been members of groups that were opening acts for several Nationally known artist such as James Brown, Kool & The Gang and The Delfonics, and Gladys Knight and The Pips just to name a few. This experience lead him to become a serious music collector. As a result, he decided to incoporate into this station format oher genres so he could share his collection of music with the world through his internet radio station. Today Ed still plays with a local funk and r&b group and when time permits, he DJ's for Private parties and Weddings.
